In the early 1980's I lived in Mi-Wuk Village. One night I was awoken by the most horrible screaming which I had assumed was a woman in terrible distress. My friend and I went down to wake up his dad who had considered calling the sheriff but the sound had stopped by then.
I do think there is a chance that absent of a direct sighting, that many of these reports in this area might be from mountain lions as they can be quite diverse in their vocalizations.
