This happened during the October 2004 Washington BFRO Expedition on the Olympic Penninsula. It was the first night of the expedition and my brother and I had been asked (as well as two other team members) to go to a location that had a recent sighting reported by [a local law enforcement officer]. The objective for the night was to walk a portion of the mountain road while making occasional wood knocks with hopes of attracting a sasquatch. By the time we arrived at the location and prepared all of our gear it had become completely dark. We started walking down the mountain road. After about 5 minutes of walking we heard two short grunting sounds that came from the woods to our left (south of the road). The grunting noises were very deep sounding, had some power behind them.
