A hunter from Romania is sharing an account that is going to stick with me for a while, and I have a feeling it will do the same for you. The story comes from a man named Adrian, who was out in the Carpathian Mountains in November of 2017 doing what he had done most of his life, hunting with his cousin Saurin. Adrian is not someone prone to exaggeration. He grew up learning the woods from his father, has crossed paths with wolves, wild boar, and even brown bears on more than one occasion. So when he describes something he could not identify, it carries weight.
The two had taken a young red deer stag and were in the process of moving it toward flatter ground when everything changed. They stopped beside a large uprooted spruce tree, the kind that leaves a wall of tangled roots and dried mud chest high behind it. While they were repositioning the animal, a hand came over the top of that root ball and grabbed the deer's hind leg. Not a paw. A hand. Enormous, covered in coarse gray shaggy fur across the back, with long thick fingers ending in curved black claws several centimeters long. The way it closed around the deer's leg was deliberate, the way a person would grab a suitcase handle. Then it pulled, and the entire stag slid across the leaves and disappeared behind the wall of roots.
What rose up from behind that fallen tree is the part that gave me chills. Two pointed ears appeared first, followed by a dark forehead and a long muzzle. Adrian's first thought was wolf, until the head kept rising and rising, far higher off the ground than any wolf should ever be. The creature stood fully upright, and Adrian estimates it was somewhere around seven feet tall or a little more. The head was heavier and broader than a wolf's, with a thick powerful muzzle and eyes that seemed more forward-facing than a normal canine, giving the face an unsettling mix of human and animal qualities. The fur was dark gray with brown and black streaks along the shoulders and back, with lighter patches around the muzzle. The ears were tall but rounded slightly at the tips.
The body was just as striking. Broad shoulders, an upright chest, a narrow waist, and arms that were extremely long. The lower legs angled backward with elongated feet and heels elevated well off the ground, ruling out any possibility of this being a person in a costume. Adrian is around six feet tall, and Saurin slightly shorter, and this thing towered over both of them.
What happened next is what really sets this account apart. Saurin fired a shot, and the creature dropped onto all fours so fast that Adrian almost lost sight of it. It launched sideways into the trees, then crashed back out about 15 meters away, moving on four limbs at a speed that seemed impossible for something its size. When it stopped, it stood back up again with no awkward transition, as if switching between bipedal and quadrupedal movement was completely natural. Then it slammed one hand into the ground, scattering leaves and dirt, and let out a bark that Adrian describes as explosive, like a massive mastiff coming from a chest the size of a man, loud enough that his ears rang.
This account is fascinating because it blends features that researchers have been cataloging for years. The bipedal stance, the immense size, the shaggy coat, the long arms, the backward-angled lower legs, these are hallmarks that show up again and again in credible witness reports across North America and beyond. The canine features add another layer, and there is a growing body of reports describing dogman or wolf-like bipedal creatures that some researchers believe may be related, a regional variant, or even a closely associated species. Adrian himself does not try to label what he saw. He simply describes it, and that is often where the most valuable evidence lives.
The full story is worth your time. Adrian goes into much more detail about the sequence of events, the sounds, and the moments after the encounter. You can find it on the Tales of The Supernatural YouTube channel under episode 156. Trust me, you will want to hear this one straight from the witness.
