In a chilling account of a possible Bigfoot encounter, a hunter in Chaban County, Michigan, recounts his experience in November 1983. While hunting, he heard a noise and movement in the distance, and something was definitely on the move. The creature moved slowly around him, keeping its distance, and when it got downwind, it made a sound that was ear-ringing, like someone screaming followed by two or three grunts. This went on for about two minutes before the creature turned and went for extremely thick cover. The hunter describes the creature as having a brain with reasoning power, and he believes it kept its distance because it didn't know how to remove him without endangering itself.
In a separate incident, also in November 1983, in Manesty County, Michigan, a father and son had just gotten set up to start deer hunting when they heard something crashing through the woods like a freight train. The smell was awful, and the father was scared sitting there in the dark until it got light out. The next fall during small game season, the son and a friend happened upon a track near the road that was much larger than a size 12 boot, and it looked like a large humanlike footprint that headed towards the road that led to the river. They looked for more tracks and located some more that crossed the road towards the Little Manisty River. In the area, there had been unusual sightings and sounds by many fly fishermen, namely seeing black large objects watching them and then moving away, generally being interpreted as a black bear.
In February 1984, in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, a group of teenagers were wandering around an old junkyard when one of the boys happened to glance down at the snow-covered ground near his friend's foot and immediately saw an incredibly huge human footprint. It was fresh, about 18 inches long, had five toes, a ball, an arch, and a heel, just like a bare footprint would look like in the sand on the beach, except this one was frozen in snow. The track was half to 3/4 of an inch deep, while their own tracks were barely visible. They looked for more tracks but only found one other about 10 feet away, also a right foot. The ground around the track was patchy with frozen snow, and the be ground was quite frozen. They eventually gave up several hours later and headed back to the friend's house.
In July 1984, in Dickinson County, Michigan, two other kids and I saw tracks in the mud on an old two track. They were big and especially wide and they only had three toes. That night, one of the same kids was with me and we heard a very low growl, and what sounded like a woman screaming. It was a very scary sound, and it was like someone scared a woman and she screamed but without being hysterical. It wasn't like a panicky scream. Unfortunately, everyone was sleeping so no one else heard it. These tracks might have been someone walking barefoot and expanded by the mud drying, but the steps were just so far apart, it was slightly downhill, and if I ran and jumped, I could land with each step.
