I had my first encounter with a large primate on Wednesday

I spent the week on a solo camping trip to Sedona. I was following a rumor to find ancient petroglyphs still undisturbed and unprotected in the wild. I managed to find the place, its miles from anybody, anything. There are no trails, no parking lot. Just a dirt Forest Road, and if you pull over at the right spot, you can climb down into a 20 foot deep dry river draw. The conditions of the place are dreadful, it is scorching hot, cactus everywhere, and mostly walking on river rocks that have been baking in the sun.
I usually dont sweat, even during a workout, but 15 minutes in and it was pouring off my face, constantly dripping off my nose. I had to stop every 100 feet or so to drink water, whereas I can usually hike for hours without it. I made my way up the "draw" (that's what this place is called) I saw loads of petroglyphs, amazing stuff, when I got to a place that the Draw flattens out I figured I would head back. I got about 50 feet heading back when I picked up a rank stench, I thought maybe something was around, so I started backtracking my path. I got back to my starting point but didnt see or smell anything. I decided to go a little further, about 30 feet past my starting point there was a pool of water and a small sandy part, that is where I found this track. It was heading in the same direction that I originally walked.
It had rained all night and that morning, so this had to be very recent. I was in the Draw for about an hour total. This track is unlike anything I've seen in 35 years of camping in 49 states. Just up and to the left of the track you'll see an imprint of knuckles or finger tips (see the video not the pic). The track was 14 inches long, and the whole outside of my hiking boot (size 12) could fit inside of it. In the video my shoe is up higher than the track so it's a little deceptive. With my backpack on I'm 200lbs, and I didnt really make much of an imprint, on about 1/8" deep. This track is on a slight slope, on the high side it's almost 3 inches deep, so the weight of this primate is really high, 800lbs?
I saw primate because of the one tell tale sign, the midtarsal break. This could not have been made by Andre the Giant sized man, as it wouldn't have a midtarsal break for any human. This track has a large raised section right across the middle of it caused by the way a primate walks. The Draw I was in had petroglyphs of elk everywhere, and elk droppings (or deer, whatever antler'd animal lives there) all over the place. Nearby I also found a deer/elk skeleton scattered about, and its leg looked like it had been broken by being twisted. I would love it if somebody can "logically" explain what was following me through the Draw, other than the Legend itself....
