A park ranger who worked in Yellowstone National Park for several decades has recently started sharing his unsettling experiences from his time in the park. In a video from the YouTube channel Base Camp Chris, the ranger, known as Bob Jackson, recounts his encounters with a mysterious creature that he couldn't identify. During his time as a backcountry ranger, Bob logged over 50,000 miles of travel and was known as "Action Jackson" for his horseback patrols and poacher hunts. He spent a lot of time in the backcountry, particularly in the Thare region, which is a high alpine lake in the southeast corner of the park. One night, while patrolling in the Fan Creek drainage, Bob heard a loud and long howl-scream that sounded like a thousand elk going to their death. He had never heard anything like it before and had no idea what it was. Two weeks later, while on horseback with a pack string and two other park employees, Bob saw a large, black, shaggy form running after a deer in a subalpine meadow. The creature was over 6 feet tall, had straight arms that swung for momentum, and was incredibly fast. Bob was amazed by its intelligence and ability to choose cover and protection as it fled. In the mid-1980s, Bob was on patrol in the Southeast corner of the park with three other rangers when they came across humanlike footprints in the snow. The prints were 18 inches long and almost all the way down to the bottom of the 3.5-foot-deep snow. Bob had never found footprints in the backcountry of Yellowstone before and the experience gave him chills. Bob's experiences in the park led him to keep his ear open for any strange noises or sightings. He talked to outfitters, guides, and other backcountry travelers and found that many of them had their own stories of strange sounds, footprints, and sightings in and around Yellowstone National Park. One such story comes from two campers who went to Grebe Lake, a lake known for having Arctic grayling. The campers had a strange encounter with a mysterious creature while they were there. As a Bigfoot believer and a curator for Squatchable, I encourage you to watch the full video on the Base Camp Chris YouTube channel and see the evidence for yourself. Who knows, you may have your own Yellowstone National Park story to share.
