Tonight's Squatchable Halloween Countdown: Day 21 – The night is the hardest time to be alive – survival Movie: Backcountry – (Rated R) A couple goes for a hike in the woods and a massive teddy bear shows up for a picnic. Available on Netflix Survive. It’s the one thing we all have to do every day of our lives and we don’t really notice we are doing it because it is so ingrained in us. Sometimes though, we are in extreme situations where our natural desire to survive is confronted with situations that are far more difficult than we have ever experienced in our daily life. These are the times that our brain actually tells us that our odds of death are high and we are going to have to work hard to live another day. Here are some survival story successes…and failures. There are some famous stories about explorers at the north and south poles but one lesser known explorer is Australian Douglas Mawson. Most explorers in these areas knew that death was likely but they still tried hard to survive. Unfortunately, not all survival stories have a happy ending. Sometimes you work hard to survive as long as possible but you still don’t make it and people are left trying to figure out what went wrong. A good example of this is the Dyatlov Pass incident, where 9 people died but the cause is unknown and current theories don’t make a lot of sense (this is a 2 part video):
