A recent video posted to YouTube by the Buckeye Bigfoot channel shares a genuinely hair-raising encounter from deep in the Louisiana bayou. The story comes from a crawfish farmer in St. Landry Parish who had a run-in with something tall, dark, and very much at home in the swamp back in March 2016. The witness was out early one morning checking crawfish traps from his brother-in-law's hydraulic-drive boat. For about a week, they'd been finding traps tipped over, pulled out of the water, and emptied of bait. They figured they had a thief on their hands. Turns out, they had something far more interesting. As he worked through the traps, he noticed one farther ahead rocking in the water. Then the whole thing came up out of the pond—and something was holding it. Thinking he'd finally caught the culprit, he yelled out across the water. What turned around to look at him was no person. The water was about four feet deep where the creature stood, and based on where the water hit its body, the witness estimated it stood around nine feet tall. It was covered in thick, dark fur that clung close to its body from the water. It had the trap in one hand and was pulling at the wire with the other, bending the opening wider to reach inside and pull out a crawfish. It popped the crawfish straight into its mouth and started chewing, reaching for another before it had even swallowed the first one. That's when things got really unsettling. The creature looked at him again, dropped the trap, and started walking through the pond directly toward him. Those crawfish boats aren't exactly speedboats, and the witness had to push his to the limit to reach the nearest levee. The creature kept coming, taking long strides through the water. At one point, it hit a deeper spot and the water rose to its midchest, but it didn't slow down at all. When the witness tried to change direction, the creature changed direction with him. That's when he knew for sure it was following him. The engine sputtered and coughed, and his heart nearly stopped, but it kept running. He made it to the levee, jumped out of the boat, and started walking fast toward his truck in the distance. Then he looked back and saw something that made his stomach drop. The creature had changed course too—it was cutting across the pond toward the main levee closest to where his truck was parked. Whether it understood where he was headed or just knew it could intercept him there, the witness wasn't sure. Either way, he wasn't about to find out. He ran for a small equipment shed instead and watched from a window as the creature climbed out onto the levee. That's when he got his best look at its real size. It stood upright for several seconds, then did a slow 360° turn, clearly scanning the area for him. After a few seconds, it gave up and walked along the levee before dropping down the far side and disappearing into the brush. When he finally got back to town and told his brother-in-law what happened, the man thought he was joking. It took reminding him that in 26 years of friendship, he'd never once told a tall tale for him to take it seriously. They went back out together later and found the trap the creature had been holding was bent along one side, with two more nearby pulled up and emptied. From that day on, they did their trap checks later in the morning. The creature was never seen again by anyone working the
