Another driver had to swerve to avoid a tall, hairy figure walking right down the center line of Ogden Canyon during a nighttime rainstorm near Wheeler Canyon. That area is practically a Sasquatch interstate at this point. The first featured encounter is a genuinely creepy one. Back in the summer of 2001, on River Road in Eden, a babysitter was alone with the kids after the parents headed out for the night. The house had a big wooden deck and a large glass front surrounding the door, which sounds beautiful until you hear the rest. The kids went to bed, and she was reading when she heard footsteps on the deck. A shadow passed by the window, and with a full moon lighting everything up, she could see someone was definitely out there. Then an arm reached out and tested the doorknob, turning it back and forth. All she could see was the shoulder and arm, but she immediately knew it was way too big to be human. After a moment, it walked away. Imagine sitting in that living room hearing those footsteps on the deck. The babysitter was terrified, and honestly, who wouldn't be? The second story comes from October 2011, near the old Liberty Church corner in Eden. A woman was driving home to North Ogden late at night, around 10:30, with snow on the ground and temperatures dropping. She stopped at the stop sign where the old church used to stand before it burned down years earlier. As she looked left to make her turn, she saw a figure walking toward her on the left side of the road. The figure crossed between her car and the stop sign, and as it passed, it turned its head and looked directly at her. She saw its eyes shine in the reflection. It was roughly six and a half feet tall, but the build was what got her. Extremely broad chest and shoulders, just massive. She could see its hair in the side reflection of her headlights, and she described it as shaggy hair of different lengths rather than dense fur. She judged the distance at about 12 feet. It wasn't afraid of her at all. It just looked and kept walking, disappearing behind her car and into a pasture or park area. She was so stunned she didn't even turn around. When she got home, she sat on the experience for about four hours before blurting it out to her husband. Twelve feet away in clear conditions. That's not a case of mistaken identity. The third account is a classic that gets passed around in Utah Sasquatch circles. Back in the early 1980s, when the snow was deep, a group of skiers were coming up over a road in the late afternoon, around 5 p.m., with sunlight still on the mountains. They watched a dark brown or black creature leap the 10-foot snow banks from one side of the two-lane road to the other. Three people saw it, and it was so close that they were practically looking up at it through their windshield as it bounded across. The host of the channel points out that this happened right along ancient Native American trails that run along the ridge of the Wasatch Mountains, stretching from Sandy all the way up through Logan. These trails were the original highways for indigenous peoples, and they followed the high ridges where travel was easier. The host points out the oak brush dropping acorns in the fall, plus all the berries growing along the sides of these old trails.
