# A Texas Trucker, a Jungle, and Something That Wasn't Wearing Weather-Appropriate Clothing
Okay, so I just spent way too long down a rabbit hole on YouTube, and I have to share this one with you. The Nights Watch channel recently posted an interview with a guy named Matt, a fuel hauler out of San Angelo, Texas, who had a sighting back in 2019 that he still can't shake. And honestly? The more he talks, the more it sounds like one of those encounters that ticks every box researchers look for.
## The Setup
May 20th, 2019. 9:35 in the morning. Broad daylight, sunny, calm, and one of those East Texas mornings where you step outside and immediately start sweating. Matt was driving his rig south on Highway 84, heading toward Coleman, looking for tornado damage from a wedge tornado that had rolled through the Silver Valley area two days earlier. Storm chasing is basically part of being a trucker in that part of the country, you keep an eye out for damage, downed lines, the usual.
## The Jungle
About three-quarters of the way to his destination, he came over a rise near a creek crossing. The area is thick with vegetation, so thick he calls it "the jungle." And right there, off the side of the highway, he spotted something dark. At first glance, he thought it was a black bull. You see those all the time on rural Texas highways. Then he glanced up into the hills to check for tree damage, looked back, and the thing had moved six or eight feet to the right.
That's when his brain started recalculating. A bull doesn't move like that. So now he's thinking it's a big hog, maybe 500, 600, 700 pounds, something that busted out of a pin during the storm. Plausible. He looks back up at the hills, checks the road, looks back again. Now it's walking. Left to right. And it's shaped like a person. A really big person.
## The Arctic Suit Moment
This is where it gets interesting. Matt is closing the distance now, a couple hundred yards out, and he's getting a real look at the figure. It's bulky. Hooded. The shape of someone wearing a full Arctic expedition suit, the kind you'd wear at the North or South Pole. On a 90-degree, muggy, no-wind morning in central Texas.
He even caught himself thinking, "What is this idiot doing wearing an Arctic suit today?" Which, honestly, is the most relatable part of the whole story. Your brain trying to rationalize something that doesn't fit.
Then the profile clicked. The bulkiness, the proportions, the way it moved. It wasn't a guy. And it wasn't a bull or a hog either.
## The Corroboration
Here's a detail I love. While Matt was processing all of this, there was a work crew on the other side of the creek, maybe 150 to 200 yards away, running a wood chipper cleaning up storm debris. Yellow flashing lights, three or four guys, a truck and trailer. So this wasn't some isolated patch of nowhere. There were witnesses nearby, even if they didn't see what Matt saw.
## The Ongoing Research
And the story doesn't end with the highway sighting. Matt mentions he's been researching a property for a couple of months now, and in just the last four weeks, he's been finding trackways. Thirteen-inch tracks. Seven-and-a-half-inch tracks. Tree structures. Rock clacking coming from about 75 yards back in the woods. The kind of multi-layered evidence that gets researchers' hearts pumping.
A 13-inch track puts whatever's leaving them at six and a half to seven feet tall, minimum. That's consistent with what Matt saw walking across that hillside.
## Why This One Sticks
Daylight sightings are gold in this field. No tricks of the light, no shadows playing games, no "maybe it was just a bear." Matt had clear visibility, good weather, and his brain kept trying to give him normal explanations until the evidence overwhelmed them. The progression from bull to hog to guy in an Arctic suit is exactly how these encounters usually unfold when the witness is being honest about what their mind was doing.
Texas has a long history with Sasquatch reports, especially in the Hill Country and the forested regions around places like Coleman. The combination of thick vegetation, water sources, and remote properties makes it prime habitat.
If you want to hear Matt tell the story himself, definitely check out the full interview on The Nights Watch channel. Jim does a great job letting the witness talk, and there's more detail in the video than I can fit here. It's one of those sit-down conversations that reminds you why firsthand accounts matter so much to this community.
Go watch it. Trust me.
