So there's this video that just popped up on the Evoliaa YouTube channel, and honestly, it's the kind of thing that makes you sit up a little straighter in your chair. If you've been following Sasquatch research for any length of time, you know the frustration. Sixty years of sightings, thousands of reports, and nobody has ever been able to look at all of it at once. Until now, apparently.
The video starts with a sighting from July 5th out of Connecticut, in Pachaug State Forest, which is the largest state forest in the state at nearly 27,000 acres of dense hardwood and hemlock. A resident reported a close-range early morning encounter with details that were hard to fake, and BFRO investigators went out, walked the site, interviewed the witness twice, and came back with a credible rating. Locally, plenty of folks rolled their eyes, and that's fair because BFRO calls a lot of things credible that never lead anywhere. But here's where the story takes a turn nobody saw coming.
A small data science team, none of them cryptid researchers by training, none of them affiliated with BFRO, pulled the organization's entire public archive along with every scrap of raw audio and video ever submitted alongside a report. They combined it all with the new Connecticut case and ran the whole thing through Grok, the AI system built by Elon Musk's xAI. The instructions were simple: look for statistical patterns across location, timing, terrain, and audio signatures without telling the model what it was supposed to find.
The team expected noise. What came back was something else entirely.
The first layer the AI flagged was geographic. Credible sightings clustered overwhelmingly along one specific type of terrain, not scattered randomly across forested land the way you'd expect from misidentified bears or deer. The pattern held tightly to elevation bands between roughly 200 and 600 feet, within a narrow distance of moving water, and almost always along corridors that had been logged decades earlier and left to regrow. That broken canopy and thick undergrowth creates exactly the kind of cover something large could move through without being spotted from any distance. Pachaug fits that profile almost perfectly, and so do dozens of other credible reports going back to the 1970s, spread across states that share nothing in common except that same narrow terrain signature.
Then came the timing layer, and this is where it stopped being simple. The model cross-referenced every credible sighting against seasonal and lunar data and surfaced a clustering pattern nobody in the field had ever formally documented. Sightings concentrated heavily in the weeks surrounding late spring and early autumn, which lines up with peak black bear activity in the eastern U.S. Skeptics have leaned on that explanation for generations. But the new moon clustering doesn't fit that explanation at all, because bear activity has no documented relationship to moon phase. Whatever is driving the exact timing of these encounters is behaving more specifically than ordinary seasonal wildlife activity would predict, and nobody had ever lined up enough cases at once to notice.
And then there's the audio. This is the part that made the research team stop and rerun the analysis twice to make sure the software wasn't hallucinating a pattern that wasn't there. Over the decades, investigators and hikers have submitted dozens of recordings alongside their reports, most of them low-quality, picked up on whatever device happened to be in someone's pocket, recorded years and sometimes decades apart by people who never spoke to each other. When the model ran spectrogram analysis across every one of those recordings, it found a shared low-frequency signature running underneath the more obvious sounds. A component sitting right at the edge of human hearing, consistent across recordings from Connecticut, Kentucky, Oregon, and half a dozen other states spanning more than 20 years of submissions.
For anyone who's spent time in the woods and heard that low, almost-not-there hum that you can't quite place, this is the kind of finding that makes the hair on your arms stand up. Acoustic researchers who study infrasound in large mammals know that certain big animals, elephants being the most famous example, communicate using frequencies right at that threshold. The video cuts off right as they're getting into what those researchers had to say about the signature, which is honestly frustrating, but it's also the kind of cliffhanger that makes you want to dig deeper on your own.
The whole thing is worth watching, especially if you've ever felt like the data was sitting right there waiting for someone with the right tools to actually look at it. Sixty years of reports, technically public, practically unreadable until now. Whatever you make of the findings, this feels like one of those moments where the conversation around Sasquatch research shifts a little. The bottleneck was never the creature.
