Recently, I came across a fascinating video on YouTube that delves into the history of wildman sightings on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The video, posted by the YouTube channel Hammerson Peters, explores an article from the December 13th issue of Vancouver’s BC’s The Province in 1904, describing a wildman sighting near Horne Lake.
According to the article, four experienced hunters from Qualicum (now Qualicum Beach) reported seeing a being covered in matted hair and a beard while hunting near Horne Lake. The creature was described as young and ran away with the swiftness of a deer. Medical professionals speculated that the wild man could be a young boy who had disappeared in the woods over a decade earlier and lost his memory after sustaining a head injury.
Interestingly, scores of Indians and settlers also claimed to have encountered the wildman during their backcountry escapades. However, the tale of the wildman of Horne Lake ended in tragedy when newspapers reported that the creature had been shot by a native near Union Bay and stumbled into the woods to die.
Despite the sad news, there is still hope for Bigfoot believers. James Kincaid, one of the four hunters who first sighted the creature at Horne Lake, reported seeing the wildman again near the mouth of the Little Qualicum River, about two miles up the coast from Qualicum Beach. Kincaid described the creature as a man about six feet tall and very stoutly built.
The video also explores various theories about the identity of the wildman, including the possibility that he could be a descendant of Chinese settlers brought to Vancouver Island in the 1780s by British trader John Meares.
This video is a must-watch for Bigfoot enthusiasts and anyone interested in the history of wildman sightings. It's always exciting to uncover new information and perspectives on these elusive creatures. So, be sure to check out the video and let us know what you think in the comments below!
