Have you ever heard of the legend of the Watcher in the Appalachian Mountains? If not, you're in for a chilling tale. A video posted on the YouTube channel Old Hillbilly Horror features a park ranger named Jake Lawson sharing his harrowing encounter with this elusive creature. In the video, Jake describes his experience of investigating strange noises coming from the Pine Hollow Trail one fall night in 2013. As he approached an old cabin, he noticed a faint light flickering inside and shadows moving behind the broken glass. When he entered the cabin, he was met with a rancid metallic odor and the sight of a deer carcass torn apart in the corner. Above the carcass, scrawled on the wall in what looked like blood, was a symbol of three intersecting circles with a jagged line running through them. As Jake was trying to make sense of what he was seeing, he heard a low guttural growl coming from somewhere outside. He swung his flashlight around and saw two glowing red eyes staring back at him from the darkness. The creature standing before him was at least 7 feet tall with long gangly limbs and skin that was pale and almost translucent. Its face was twisted into an almost human-like expression, but its eyes were sunken and its mouth was filled with sharp jagged teeth. Jake tried to shine his flashlight directly into the creature's eyes, but it let out a high-pitched screech and vanished into the darkness. When Jake returned to the cabin the next morning with other rangers, the deer carcass and the symbol on the wall were gone. Jake tried to explain what he had seen, but the other rangers didn't believe him. Since that night, Jake has heard rumors of other rangers and campers experiencing strange noises and sightings of a tall pale figure lurking near the old cabins. He even found an old newspaper article dated back to the 1950s about a series of disappearances near Pine Hollow. The locals had a name for the creature - The Watcher. I found this video to be both intriguing and terrifying. The description of the creature and the symbol on the wall are reminiscent of other paranormal encounters, leading me to believe that there may be some truth to Jake's story. The fact that other rangers and campers have reported similar sightings only adds to the credibility of his account. If you're planning on hiking in the Appalachian Mountains, be sure to stick to the trails and keep your eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary. You never know what kind of creature you may encounter in the woods. And if you do happen to come across something strange, be sure to share your story with Squatchable.
