Cole Hollow Monster: Investigating 1970s Bigfoot Sightings in Illinois

A fascinating account of a mysterious creature in Central Illinois has recently caught my attention, and I couldn't wait to share it with all of you fellow Bigfoot enthusiasts. The story comes from a YouTube channel called miSKULLaneous, where they shared their investigation of the "Cole Hollow Monster" in a Halloween special. As the video begins, we're introduced to a local family's encounter with a massive, white-haired beast roaming their property near Cole Hollow Road. This giant creature supposedly caused damage to a vehicle in a scrapyard and left the young car washer shaken to his core. The legend of the Cole Hollow Monster, or "Coomo," dates back to 1972, when a gas station worker and his friend claimed to have encountered a Sasquatch-like creature on Cole Hollow Road. The friend described the beast as being around 12 feet tall, covered in white hair, and having three toes on each foot. As more and more people began reporting sightings of the creature, the Peakin Illinois Police Department received over 200 reports – none of which included photographic evidence, as cameras were not as common in the '70s. In July of that year, a search party of over 100 volunteers set out to find the creature after it had allegedly destroyed a fence. Unfortunately, the search was cut short when one of the volunteers accidentally shot himself in the foot with a 22 caliber pistol. Despite the setback, reports of the Cole Hollow Monster continued, with the last official police report being made in July 1972. What I find particularly intriguing is that the story of the young man leaving for work in the early '80s, who had a close encounter with the Cole Hollow Monster, is connected to my own family. This personal connection adds an extra layer of excitement and mystery to the tale.
