If you're a Bigfoot enthusiast, you're likely familiar with the Patterson-Gimlin film, one of the most famous and controversial pieces of footage featuring an alleged Sasquatch. Recently, I came across a video on The Sasquatch Archives YouTube channel discussing the first showings of this iconic film. The video begins by addressing the significance of October 20th, the day Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin claimed to have filmed a female Sasquatch in Northern California. The video then delves into the history of the film's first showings, which started just two days after its alleged capture. The first showing took place at Al DeAtley's house, Patterson's brother-in-law, on October 22nd, 1967. Those in attendance included Al DeAtley, Roger Patterson, John Green, Renee Dinden, and Jim McLaren. Interestingly, Bob Gimlin was not present, stating he was too exhausted from the Bluff Creek trip. The group watched the film several times, and it showed signs of wear and tear due to repeated viewings. The next showing occurred on October 26th, 1967, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. Organized by John Green, the event aimed to gather scientific input on the footage. However, the response was lukewarm, with one museum employee even declaring it a hoax. A press conference followed at the Hotel Georgia (now called the Rosewood Hotel Georgia), where Roger Patterson was interviewed. After the UBC and Hotel Georgia showings, Patterson returned to Yakima, where he loaned a copy of his film to KIMA TV, a local TV station. They supposedly broadcast the film, but no copies of the broadcast exist today. The Patterson-Gimlin film remains a significant and controversial piece of Bigfoot history. This video from The Sasquatch Archives provides valuable insight into the film's early showings and the reactions of those who first viewed it.
