Search and Rescue Encounter with a Mysterious Creature in Devil's Peak

Simmons describes a particularly harrowing search and rescue mission in which he and his team were looking for a missing couple, Ryan and Jessica Matthews, near Devil's Peak. As they searched the treacherous terrain, they stumbled upon a hiking boot with the name "Jay Matthews" written inside. That's when Simmons saw something strange moving between the trees. "It was too tall, too thin, and its limbs were unnaturally long," Simmons recalls. "I could just make out the glint of its eyes reflecting the light. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. Whatever it was, it wasn't human." Simmons and his team managed to make it through the night, but they never found Ryan and Jessica Matthews. And they weren't the only ones who had seen strange creatures in the area. "Some of the older rangers said it wasn't the first time something like this had happened," Simmons says.
