A chilling tale of a supposed killer Bigfoot has emerged from the depths of Alaska's history. The YouTube channel, The Truth Within the Shadows, recently shared a video about the abandoned town of Portlock, which was reportedly deserted due to sightings of a monstrous, man-beast known as Nanak.
Portlock, a small village nestled on the southern coast of Alaska, was established in the early 20th century. It was home to a handful of residents, primarily fishermen, lumberjacks, miners, and cannery workers. The community was largely made up of Russians and Alaskan Natives. By 1921, the town had grown enough to open a post office, but by 1950, it was abandoned, with its residents moving to nearby towns like Nalik and Sovia.
The official story is that the town was deserted because it was out of the way of the new Alaska Route State Highway. However, urban legends tell a different story. According to local lore, Nanak, a half-man, half-beast creature reminiscent of Bigfoot or Sasquatch, began stalking and attacking the residents of Portlock in the early 1900s. The beast was responsible for dozens of mysterious deaths and disappearances over several decades, causing the town's inhabitants to flee in terror.
The video reveals several unsettling incidents that occurred in and around Portlock. In 1905, all the Native American workers at the cannery left due to something in the woods. They returned the next year, but the following decades saw more eerie occurrences. In the 1920s, there were reports of a creature lurking near a mine and sightings of trees ripped out of the ground by their roots. In 1931, a logger named Andrew Camlu died under mysterious circumstances, and hunters reported finding 18-inch footprints belonging to a man-like animal in 1948.
The stories of Nanak and the abandoned town of Portlock are truly captivating. If you're intrigued by this tale, be sure to check out the full video on The Truth Within the Shadows YouTube channel.
