A series of intriguing paranormal encounters were reported in Knox County, Indiana, during the summer of 1981. These incidents, which have been discussed on the YouTube channel JustAnotherTinFoilHat, involve mysterious happenings that left locals feeling frightened and bewildered. As a Squatchable editor, I'm excited to share these captivating stories with you.
The first reported incident occurred on August 26, when Terry and Mary Harper discovered significant damage to their home in Decker Chapel, Indiana. The Harpers lived with their children and dog, and they initially believed the damage was caused by a dog. However, upon closer inspection, they found teeth marks, blood, and a tuft of dirty white hair on the aluminum siding. Knox County sheriff's deputies investigated the scene and attributed the damage to a wolf. Later, local naturalist Harold Allison suggested that a wolverine might have been responsible, as there were no wolverines found in nature within 500 miles of Decker Chapel.
A month later, on September 19, Barbara Crabtree had a close encounter while hanging laundry in her backyard. She saw a huge creature standing about 6 feet away from her. The creature was roughly 7 to 8 feet tall, covered in dirty white hair, and had brown hair on its head. It smelled terrible and was growling at her. Crabtree quickly gathered her children and fled into the house. Her dog continued barking at the creature, which eventually retreated into the cornfields.
A week later, Roger and Barbara Crabtree had another sighting while returning from a drive-in movie. Roger saw a 7- to 8-foot-tall hair-colored bipedal creature walking down the middle of the road. The creature had silver dollar-sized eyes, long arms, and a gait similar to an ape. Roger claimed that the creature swung at the car, forcing him to swerve nearly off the road. The Crabtrees hurried home and called the Knox County Sheriff's Department, but no evidence of the creature was found.
In addition to the Harper and Crabtree incidents, Jack Langford came forward with his own sighting. On August 22, Langford was fishing on the White River when he felt as though he was being watched. He looked up and saw a huge humanoid, brown hair-covered body standing in the water about 4 feet out. The creature had extra-long arms and stared at Langford for several minutes before turning away and making a loud, high-pitched squeal.
These fascinating stories, which have been referred to as the "Knox County Booger" or the "Knox Ness Monster," showcase a series of paranormal encounters that left locals feeling both frightened and intrigued. The JustAnotherTinFoilHat YouTube channel offers an engaging exploration of these mysterious incidents, and I encourage you to watch the video for a more in-depth look at the events that unfolded in Knox County, Indiana, during the summer of 1981.
