Virginia Bigfoot Sightings: Two Encounters & a New Mystery Creature?

A fascinating account of a possible Bigfoot encounter has recently surfaced on the YouTube channel "Our Strange Reality." The video, titled "The Virginia Bigfoot Incident," shares the story of Randy O'Neal and his father, who, along with a family friend, had a chilling experience in Chesapeake, Virginia, back in 1989. During a camping trip, Randy woke up in the middle of the night to find two glowing red eyes staring at him from the bushes outside their campsite. His father, quickly grabbing a gun, told Randy to shoot in the direction of the eyes. After firing a shot, they heard a blood-curdling scream and the sound of something large running off into the woods, followed by a huge splash in the nearby swamp. The next morning, the trio discovered a large area of flattened vegetation, suggesting that something massive had run through it. Although Randy doesn't claim that the creature was a Bigfoot, he admits to never having seen or heard anything like it before or since. Interestingly, this area of Virginia has a history of Bigfoot sightings, with several reports coming from the Northwest River Park and the Great Dismal Swamp in the 1980s. One notable encounter involved Sherry Davis, who, while camping in the Northwest River Park in 1981, saw a huge, hairy figure standing in her campsite for 15 seconds before it ran off into the woods. Park Ranger Pat Higgins, who worked in the area during the early 1980s, shared his belief that a large, hairy creature lived in the Dismal Swamp and occasionally wandered into the Northwest River Park. He even nicknamed the creature "Skunk Ape" due to its potent smell.
