A chilling account of a Bigfoot encounter in Alberta's Waterton Lakes National Park has been making waves in the Bigfoot community. The story, which took place in 1988, was documented in Canadian Bigfoot researcher Thomas Steinberg's book "In Search of Giants: Bigfoot Sasquatch Encounters." Recently, one of the witnesses, Susan Ray Adams, reached out to Steinberg, sharing her harrowing experience and sparking renewed interest in the case.
Adams and three other witnesses were gathered around a campfire when they heard snorting from the woods. Initially, they assumed it was a deer, but upon closer inspection, they realized it was likely a bear, prompting them to hastily retreat to their vehicles. To their shock, they saw a mysterious figure standing upright, illuminated by the headlights. The creature was striding through the trees on two legs, unmistakably humanoid.
After its departure, they encountered another group of campers who had also witnessed the anomaly. Reluctant at first, they eventually reported the sighting to the park warden, describing the creature as an 8ft tall figure, never observed on all fours, with long arms swinging through the forest.
Steinberg, recognizing the significance of the encounter, arranged interviews with the witnesses, incorporating details of the incident into his subsequent work "Sasquatch: Bigfoot - The Continuing Mystery," published in 1993. Despite the months that had passed, Steinberg observed the lingering distress of the witnesses, lending credibility to their testimonies.
The handwritten letter from witness Darwin Giles, submitted to the park warden's office the day after the incident, further corroborates the encounter. Giles's account succinctly summarizes the events on the night of May 22, 1988, and emphasizes that the creature was unequivocally not a bear.
Considering the credible witnesses, their profound disturbance, and the area's history of sightings, Steinberg deemed the Crandall Campground incident one of the most compelling cases in his two decades of investigating Canadian Sasquatch.
This captivating account serves as a reminder of the enigmatic nature of Bigfoot and the importance of sharing and documenting such encounters.
