In 1924, a group of miners in Mount St. Helens, Washington, including Fred Beck, had been mining in the area for 6 years. They noticed large unnatural tracks near creek beds and heard strange whistling sounds echoing throughout the forest. One week, they heard loud thumping sounds and Hank, an excellent Woodsman and Hunter, spotted a massive hairy creature. Both Hank and Fred saw the Bigfoot, which they described as over 7 feet tall and with a massive and bulky frame. They heard more strange noises and believed they were surrounded by many Sasquatch creatures. The miners defended themselves by firing at the Bigfoot when they felt threatened, and the creatures eventually retreated at dawn. The legend of Ape Canyon was born, and the area continues to have Bigfoot sightings to this day.
