In a recent video posted on YouTube, Ray Harwood of Bigfoot Quest magazine interviews Doug, a special effects designer for the movie industry with a focus on costumes and monsters. Doug has an impressive resume, having worked with legends like Ray Harryhausen and Stan Winston. His career took off after moving to LA at the age of 22, and he spent 15 years in the industry before deciding to move his family to Washington.
It was in Washington that Doug fell into the Bigfoot community. With his background in special effects, he was approached by a local director to create a Bigfoot costume for a horror film. This opportunity led to Doug becoming known as the go-to guy for realistic Bigfoot costumes, and he now rents out his studio-quality costume for use in films, commercials, and events.
Doug's passion for Bigfoot is evident as he discusses his experiences in the field. He mentions watching the movie "Sasquatch" as a child and being fascinated by the creature. When he moved to Washington, he was excited to learn more about the local lore and mythology surrounding Bigfoot.
One interesting bit Doug shares is the Native American legend of the Om, the word for Bigfoot in the Willow Creek area. According to the legend, the Om used red obsidian arrowheads and had a specific backstory involving soap roots and fish. The movie "Willow Creek" incorporated this legend into its plot, and Doug enjoyed the film for its originality and respect for the subject matter.
I found Doug's experiences and knowledge of the creature to be fascinating. It's always exciting to learn more about the community and the efforts being made to bring the reality of Bigfoot to the big screen. I encourage all fellow Bigfoot enthusiasts to check out the video and see Doug's impressive costume work for yourself.
