Black Star Canyon in Southern California has a dark and haunting history. This infamous canyon has been the site of a Native American massacre, a cold-blooded murder, and unexplained sounds of animals and people. But that's not all - there have also been reports of mysterious creatures lurking in the shadows. One such creature is Santiago Sam, a Bigfoot or Sasquatch type creature that has been rumored to be living in the Santa Ana mountains for years. According to reports, Sam has been seen not only in the canyon, but also in other parts of the Cleveland National Forest. Despite being shorter than most reported Bigfoot sightings, with a height between 5 and 6 feet, Sam leaves behind massive 20-inch footprints. Researchers believe that his short stature may have been what's allowed him to stay hidden for so long. One local hiker had a close encounter with Santiago Sam while hiking in the canyon with her wife. They initially thought they saw a deer drinking from the creek, but upon shining their light on it, they were shocked to see a 4 to 6 feet tall, black and grey haired creature with long arms. The creature stared at them for 30 seconds before disappearing into the brush. But Santiago Sam isn't the only mysterious creature reported in Black Star Canyon. There have also been reports of small humanoid like creatures, dubbed the "Black Star Penguins" or "Black Star Waddlers" by locals. These creatures are said to be approximately 2 feet tall and dark or black in color. They have been reported to walk in groups and in single file lines, with a waddling motion similar to penguins. One man named Robert Lawrence and his friend reported encountering these small creatures while walking in the canyon. They noticed the waddlers as they were making their way down a step cliff that would normally be too steep for animals to climb. However, these small creatures walked in single file easily. Lawrence and his friend reported that they were not noticed by the waddlers and that they disappeared into the brush at the bottom of the canyon after about 5 minutes. In addition to these mysterious creatures, there have also been reports of ghostly apparitions of children running near the site of a tragic school bus crash in 1970. The bus had fallen so far down the canyon that it took more than 40 years for it to finally be removed. Visitors to the canyon have reported seeing ghostly apparitions of children running near the site of the crash, as well as small handprints on the windows of the bus and hearing voices of children.
