In a recent video posted on the YouTube channel TayMarie, a talented carver takes on the challenge of creating a 4-foot Bigfoot carving. The artist starts by showing us the blueprints for the project, which features a standing and waving Bigfoot, and then moves on to the massive log they'll be using.
As the carving progresses, the artist shares some interesting insights, such as leaving the feet for last to ensure they fit perfectly with the legs. They also share their thought process behind certain design decisions, like giving the Bigfoot a bent arm for a waving hand and leaving a thick triangle at the base of the carving to create the appearance of long tufts of hair.
During the project, the artist also discovers a peculiar log left by their neighbor. They invite viewers to share their thoughts on what the mysterious log resembles.
After completing the main body of the carving, the artist focuses on the feet, which they consider to be one of the main attractions of the piece. They then proceed to texture the Bigfoot's body, creating a unique contrast between deep, long grooves and finer hair-like textures.
Once the texturing is complete, the artist torches the carving to bring out the texture and adds a beautiful gloss finish with Australian Timber oil. They then burn and paint the eyes, giving the Bigfoot a captivating and lifelike appearance.
In the final stages, the artist stains the carving, enhancing its natural beauty. After a few days of drying, the Bigfoot is ready to be picked up and taken to its new home.
Throughout the video, the artist showcases their exceptional skills and creativity, providing an entertaining and educational experience for viewers interested in woodcarving and Bigfoot lore.
