If you're a fan of roadside attractions and cryptids, then you'll love the Fouke Monster Mart in Fouke, Arkansas. This family-owned business is dedicated to preserving the history of the local legend, the Boggy Creek Monster, also known as the Fouke Monster.
The Boggy Creek Monster is Arkansas's answer to Bigfoot, a big hairy cryptid said to roam the bottomlands of the Sulphur River. This elusive creature is said to stand around seven to eight feet tall and weigh around 300 pounds, with human-like qualities and covered in gnarls of thick dark hair. Sightings of the Beast have been reported since 1834, with popular cases emerging in the 1970s through the 1990s.
The Fouke Monster Mart is located on Highway 71, around 15 miles Southeast of Texarkana, and offers plenty of photo ops outside the store. You can take selfies with a giant monster head that peeks out over the top of the building, a life-size Boggy Creek Monster with his paws out ready to grab you, a Boggy Creek Monster mural, and a face cutout stand-up that lets you transform yourself into the monster.
Inside the Mart, you'll find a small museum where you can learn more about the Boggy Creek Monster with exhibits, press clippings, drawings, and life-size models. There's also a convenience store to pick up your own Boggy Monster souvenirs, including t-shirts, mugs, postcards, and magnets. You can also pick up road chip snacks or even a pizza.
