If you're a fan of Bigfoot horror films, then you're in for a treat with this week's video from M.L. Miller's YouTube channel. In this video, Miller takes a closer look at two Bigfoot-themed horror films: "Creature from Black Lake" (1976) and "Big Fur" (2020). "Creature from Black Lake" tells the story of two college kids from Chicago who travel to Louisiana to investigate reports of a large bipedal creature roaming the swamps, commonly known as Bigfoot. The film delves into the phenomenon of people not wanting to talk about the monster for fear of being labeled as crazy, a topic that is not often explored in Bigfoot films. The cast of "Creature from Black Lake" is impressive, featuring actors such as John David Carson, Dennis Fimple, Jack Elam, Dub Taylor, Bill Thurman, and Jim McCullough Jr. The use of a college crew investigating Bigfoot is a common trope in the genre, but "Creature from Black Lake" uses this premise to tell a more interesting story. Miller also takes a look at "Big Fur," a documentary about Ken Walker, a taxidermist known for his award-winning works. Walker dreams of recreating one of the most elusive creatures known to man - Bigfoot. The documentary follows Walker's journey as he creates a Bigfoot sculpture, using styrofoam, fur from different animals, and the creature's all-important eyes. While the documentary is not a horror film, it does belong in the cinema of the weird category. The end result of Walker's efforts is a creature that looks right at home with the rest of the wild beasts on display at the world taxidermy championship. One interesting bit from the video is the fact that taxidermy has been the butt of many a Norman Bates joke and the scorn of many animal rights activists. However, the documentary humanizes Walker and shows the artistry and passion that goes into his work. To sum up, if you're a fan of Bigfoot horror films or simply interested in the art of taxidermy, be sure to check out M.L. Miller's video on "Creature from Black Lake" and "Big Fur." You won't be disappointed.
