Bigfoot and the Ghost of Edgar Allan Poe
Have you ever wondered if there’s more to our world than what we see with our own eyes? If so, you’re not alone. Many people believe in the existence of creatures like Bigfoot, and some even claim to have had encounters with them. Recently, I came across a video from the YouTube channel Chronicle 5 WCVB that explores the world of the paranormal, focusing on Bigfoot and the ghost of a literary icon.
The video features Jeff Bullinger, an author and podcast host who often reports on New England legends and the paranormal. Bullinger covers everything from historical haunts to ghosts, UFOs, and, of course, Bigfoot. When asked if he believes in these kinds of stories, Bullinger replied, “Yes, I do believe a lot of these stories because they stick around. I have all the same struggles you do with it. And yet people who are reliable folks have nothing to gain and everything to lose by sharing the story.”
Bullinger isn’t the only one who believes in Bigfoot. The video also features Jonathan, a former park ranger and small business owner turned Bigfoot investigator. Jonathan has been investigating Bigfoot sightings for over a dozen years and has looked into around 60 to 70 reports, most of them in western Massachusetts. He runs a chapter of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, which tracks reports nationally.
Jonathan believes that Bigfoot has long been described as a shy nocturnal ape-like creature standing seven or eight feet tall. He says, “You have people not just in New England but all over North America and into Canada that report the same type of creatures: bipedal, covered in hair, nomadic and elusive.”
One of the most famous and often derided pieces of evidence for Bigfoot’s existence is a video shot in 1967 in California. Skeptics may scoff, but Matthew, another Bigfoot investigator, says that Bigfoot should be taken seriously. He states, “There has never been any collective unbiased studies of the unexplained. It is the 800-pound gorilla in the room where they go, never mind.”
The video also touches on the subject of ghosts, specifically the ghost of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was a well-known poet and writer who was courting a woman named Sarah Helen Whitman in Providence, Rhode Island. However, their relationship ended abruptly when someone gave Whitman a note claiming to have seen Poe out drinking, which led her to call off their wedding. Poe left Providence that night on the 6:00 p.m. train, and they never saw each other again.
Rumors of Poe’s ghost have been associated with the Providence Athenaeum ever since. Eliza Collins, a wellness business owner who specializes in burnout recovery, recently saw something unusual while doing readings in the library. She says, “I thought I saw somebody browsing the books. It looked like they were in late 19th-century dress. I looked up to say hello, and there was no one there.”
Collins isn’t sure if it was Poe’s ghost she saw, but she has heard claims that he might be there because it is one of the last places he was happy. She adds, “I work in medicine during the day, and I am a very rational person. But I like to think this type of thing exists. It helps me believe in something bigger. As long as it doesn’t hurt anybody else under the process, I think it is a great option for people.”
To sum up, the world of the paranormal is full of mysteries and unexplained phenomena. Whether you believe in Bigfoot, ghosts, or other unexplained creatures, there’s no denying that these stories have captivated people for generations.
