Wildmen of China: A Look into the Unknown
Have you ever heard of the wildmen of China? These mysterious creatures have been reported in China for centuries, with sightings and evidence dating back to the 9th century. The latest video from TCC Research takes us on a journey through the wild terrain of China in search of these elusive beings.
According to the video, reports of wildmen in China are rare, but they do have a long history. Leecho, a 9th century historian, wrote about a band of wildmen residing in the forests of Hubei. In the 18th century, a creature was found in the wild regions of Sichuan province, described as monkey-like yet not monkey-like.
In 1940, a graduate of the biology department of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, claimed to have seen the corpse of a female wildman. The creature was about six feet six inches tall and covered in a coat of thick grayish red hair about one and a quarter inches long. In 1957, a middle school teacher in Jujang Province claimed to have obtained the hands and feet of a man-bear that had been killed by local peasants. The appendages were believed to belong to a primate, possibly an enormous monkey of some unknown kind.
In June 1977, the Xinhua News Agency of China issued a report to the worldwide media about hundreds of very large footprints, similar to a man's but much larger, seen in the forests of Shennongjia National Park. The report came from Wang Fanichan, head of the privately run committee for research on strange and rare creatures. The preliminary conclusion was that the prints were made by two animals walking on two legs.
Wang led a team of 30 scientists through the park the previous summer and found nothing. However, he vowed to continue to search for the fabled six feet six inches red-haired human-like creatures that are part of the local folklore. Last winter, he had found similar footprints left by two other creatures in the park.
Wang urged caution and warned researchers not to jump to swift conclusions without having hard scientific evidence. His theories included an unknown primate, maybe a bear or a monkey, or a missing evolutionary link between apes and humans.
In May 2000, the Xinhua News Agency decided to use the American term of Bigfoot instead of the term Yeren. Guided tours were to be given along the periphery of Shennongjia National Park, where local residents claimed to see Bigfoot. Tourists would be able to visit the roads where the local residents claimed to see Bigfoot but not be permitted to go further into the reserve.
In October of that year, a team of paleoanthropologists from Beijing, along with local researchers and reporters, discovered 16-inch long footprints, some long brown hair, and chewed corn cobs in Chennongjia. The possibility of a bear was ruled out by Yuan Jinxing, a paleoanthropologist from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Pan Wenlif, a paleontologist from Beijing University, visited the Nature Reserve and believed that it was not an ideal living environment for primates with four hands because of the frequent human activities and a shortage of broadleaf trees and berries in the forest.
Wine Fanchon, a scientist and head of the committee for the search for rare animals and plants, said that repeated attempts to find Bigfoot were disappointing. However, a few scientists do believe in the possibility that such a half-man half-ape creature still exists in the forests of China. Reports of Bigfoot in the Tibet autonomous region in Southwest China are still made.
This video from TCC Research is a fascinating look into the world of the wildmen of China. While there is no concrete evidence of their existence, the reports and sightings throughout history are intriguing and worth further investigation. Who knows, maybe one day we will have definitive proof of these elusive creatures.
