Yellowwood State Park: A Hidden Gem with a Paranormal Twist
If you're a fan of the great outdoors, you'll love Yellowwood State Park in Brown County, Indiana. With three pristine lakes, hiking and horse trails, abundant wildlife, and primitive overnight campsites, this 23,326-acre forest has something for everyone. But did you know that this beautiful park also has a paranormal reputation?
Recently, a couple reported unusual activity during a weekend of camping at Yellowwood State Park. After setting up camp on Saturday, August 8, 2015, they took a walk around the lake and prepared dinner. As they sat by the fire, they heard something howling close by their camper. The howl was long, deep, and clear, ending with a gargle or sort of rasp. It lasted for around 10 seconds and was answered by another howl from across the lake. After a few more howls, the couple lay awake for a while, listening for more.
The male witness, who is familiar with coyotes, dogs, and other animals, was confident that none of these were responsible for the howls. He also maintained that the howl was not human due to its length and power. Both witnesses stated that the answering calls were not echoes of the first calls; there were only two other campers at the campground, and they were set up at the other end of the campground. It was a clear night, around 60 degrees, and the campground area was set in dense woods next to a large lake.
As of yet, there has been no identification as to what was making the howls. While the paranormal activity at Yellowwood State Park is intriguing, it's good to remember that the park offers many recreational opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels. The park's three lakes, hiking and horse trails, abundant wildlife, and primitive overnight campsites make it a great destination for a weekend getaway.
