Despite this, there is evidence that analysis of hair samples did take place. George Clappison, who did extensive research on this incident, was referred by the FBI to the ex-head of their hair and fiber unit. This person, who now runs his own private laboratory out of his home, was in charge at the time the hair samples were submitted to the FBI. He told Clappison that the analysis was done after hours on employees' own time and that no written reports were prepared on the analysis. The video also mentions the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service's recognition of Bigfoot as a species in 1977. The service is responsible for protecting endangered and threatened species, and Bigfoot was given a scientific name in a recognized scientific publication.
