If you're a fan of independent Bigfoot films, then you're in for a treat with the 2021 release, "Bogman." This film, directed by Mitch Lang, is the first in what hopes to be a new monster verse, and it certainly does not disappoint.
The story follows the Williams family, who have just moved to Mountain Bend, Arkansas, after Charles' uncle passed away and left him a ranch. The town is known for its Bigfoot sightings, and the family quickly learns that the entire town capitalizes on the creature to make money. From local shops selling Bigfoot merchandise to a TV show called "Chasing Bogman," the town is obsessed with the creature.
As the family settles into their new home, they begin to notice strange occurrences on their property. One of the ranch hands, David, sets up trail cameras to investigate the animal damage to the outer perimeter buildings. However, when a large rock is thrown at him, he becomes spooked and runs away. Meanwhile, a group of hunters is in the woods, determined to shoot and kill the creature.
As the family begins to work on the ranch, James is tasked with cutting down a path to the lake. He runs into Deputy Thomas, who informs him that two hunters have gone missing. David agrees to show the deputy to one of the hunter's meat traps, and they soon discover their bodies. The family is warned to stay inside while the cops sort everything out.
The next day, David and Clark set up traps and monitors around the property. Clark sees the creature and takes off, and the monster catches up to him, knocking over trees in an attempt to hit him. David comes running to help, and the creature runs away. Clark is not dead but will be out of commission for a while.
A camera crew from the "Chasing Bogman" show shows up at the house, much to Charles' dismay. However, his wife had met with the mayor, who forced her to sign an agreement to let them film. James is thrilled to be on his favorite show.
As the crew investigates the property, they find real evidence of Bigfoot's existence, including footprints, blood, and hair. They also find stacked rocks, which could be a form of communication for the creatures.
As the hunt for Bigfoot continues, the creature attacks the crew, and they all run back to the ranch. The military is called in to help, and they shoot tracking darts at the creature to study it. However, the hunt turns into a bloodbath, and Bigfoot takes out each of the military guys.
In the end, the family survives, and Charles and Dr. Martin discuss what they'll do next. The show cannot continue, but that doesn't mean Dr. Martin has to stop hunting monsters. The film sets up a sequel, leaving viewers excited to see what's next.
One interesting bit from the film is the use of stacked rocks as a form of communication for Bigfoot. This behavior is similar to how the local natives used to mark trails with stones. It's fascinating to think that Bigfoot may have caught onto this behavior as well.
Overall, "Bogman" is an exciting and ambitious Bigfoot film that is sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. The film is a must-watch for any Bigfoot enthusiast, and it's a great addition to the monster verse genre.
