Have you heard of the Batutut, also known as the Forest People? They're said to inhabit the Vu Quang Nature Reserve and other wilderness areas of Vietnam, Laos, and Northern Borneo. These creatures are described as being around six feet tall and covered in hair, except for the knees, soles of the feet, and hands. The hair can range in color from gray to brown to black.
Dr. McKinnon claims to have observed tracks in 1970 of a possible Batutut, and more footprints were found in 1982 by Professor Tran Hong Viet. Witnesses in Borneo describe the creature as being four feet tall and very aggressive, occasionally killing humans and tearing out their livers. There have even been reports of U.S soldiers seeing the creature during the Vietnam war, referring to it as a "rock ape."
In the fifth season of Destination Truth, host Josh Gates and his team went to Vietnam to search for the Batutut. They found several large human-like footprints and made a casting of them. Gates's castings were examined by Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, who called it a "significant discovery."
It's fascinating to learn about other cryptids that share similarities with Bigfoot. While the Batutut may not be as well-known as Bigfoot, they are still an important part of cryptozoology and should be respected as such.
