In a recent video from the YouTube channel "Where Did the Road Go? Radio," host Soraya interviews Travis Watson, author of the book "Sasquatch Canada: Beyond British Columbia." The book explores Sasquatch sightings across Canada, outside of British Columbia, where the majority of reported sightings tend to occur.
Watson, who writes under the pseudonym W.T. Watson, has previously written about phantom black dogs and Canadian monsters. His books are known for their accessible length and thorough data collection, making them a great introduction to various cryptids and unexplained phenomena.
"Sasquatch Canada" was born out of Watson's research for his previous book, "Canadian Monsters and Mysteries," where he noticed a lack of Sasquatch sightings reported outside of British Columbia. Curious about this, Watson decided to investigate further and discovered numerous sightings across Canada, which he compiled into this new book.
One interesting story Watson shares in the video is that of two prospectors in the Banff National Park area in Alberta, near Lake Minnewanka. In 1896, the prospectors encountered a Sasquatch-like creature and, thinking it was a bear, opened fire. To their surprise, the creature stood up on two legs and shrieked before disappearing into the forest. This encounter is just one of many detailed in Watson's book, showcasing the widespread nature of Sasquatch sightings across Canada.
In addition to discussing his book, Watson also shares his thoughts on the possibility of Sasquatch roaming near densely populated areas. He references a sighting near St. Catharines, Ontario, where two truckers spotted a Sasquatch-like creature next to a tree with a branch over seven feet off the ground. This encounter took place near a major highway, suggesting that Sasquatch may be more adaptable to human environments than previously thought.
While the video focuses on Sasquatch sightings, it also touches on the importance of preserving natural habitats for wildlife. As Watson points out, many Sasquatch sightings occur near bodies of water and forested areas, highlighting the need for conservation efforts to protect these environments. By studying Sasquatch sightings, researchers like Watson hope to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats and the many mysteries they hold.
