Have you ever heard of the Skunk Ape, Florida's very own version of Bigfoot? If not, let me introduce you to this fascinating creature that has been spotted and documented in the Sunshine State for hundreds of years. While many people don't associate Florida with Bigfoot sightings, it actually has the third highest number of sightings in the U.S. The creature is usually described as a large hairy man or ape, standing at least seven feet tall and covered in red or brown shaggy hair. Some reports even describe a foul smell emanating from the animal, which is how it got its name. I recently came across a video from the YouTube channel Erik K Swanson, where he goes on a journey to learn more about the legendary Skunk Ape. He connects with Matt Larson, an active Bigfoot researcher who is documenting his search and plans to make a documentary about his journey. Matt takes Erik on one of his outings to give him a broader look into the world of bigfooting. During their exploration, Matt and Erik come across a 17-inch footprint. Matt found the footprint in an unexplored area, and it's definitely interesting and probably enough to make most people curious about what caused it. While this discovery has fueled Matt's interest in Bigfoot, some of the others have actually had encounters with a creature they cannot explain. One interesting bit I learned from the video is that some primates will emit certain odors as communication as far as defensive or territorial warnings. I found this fascinating as it's another piece of evidence that suggests Bigfoot is not just a myth, but a real creature with its own language and way of communicating. If you're interested in learning more about the Skunk Ape and Bigfoot, I highly recommend checking out the full video on Erik K Swanson's YouTube channel. Who knows, you might just become a believer yourself.
