Have you ever heard of the Forge Ridge area in Claiborne County, Tennessee? It’s a place where a man, who we’ll call Steve, had an encounter with a white Bigfoot in his youth. Steve is a longtime government employee who had to undergo extensive drug testing and background checks to obtain his job. He has nothing to gain from sharing his story, and he’s well-respected by his co-workers and the community. In other words, he’s a very credible witness.
During a hunting trip in the late 70s, Steve heard something coming down the hill. At first, he thought it was a squirrel, but as it got closer, he realized it was a white creature walking like a man. Steve estimated that the creature was seven to eight feet tall and had long strides. It stopped and turned to face Steve, who was only 35-40 yards away. Despite the close proximity, Steve couldn’t make out any facial features. Suddenly, the creature screamed like a woman and took off down the woods, stopping and turning around to look at Steve again before disappearing.
Steve didn’t have a gun with him at the time, but if he did, he’s not sure he would have shot at the creature. He admits that encountering something like that can change a person’s perspective. After the encounter, Steve went back to hunting in the same area, but he still thinks about that day.
The white Bigfoot that Steve encountered is not the only one that has been seen in the area. Steve’s mother and aunt saw a brown Bigfoot in the same area when they were growing up. Steve wonders if it’s the same creature, only older and grayer.
One interesting bit that Steve mentioned is that he’s heard that Bigfoots can turn gray as they age, just like humans. This is something that scientists have observed in other primates, such as orangutans and gorillas. As these animals age, their hair turns gray or white, just like human hair. This process is called “canities subterminalis” and is caused by a decrease in melanin production.
So, could the white Bigfoot that Steve encountered be an older creature with graying hair? It’s possible, but we may never know for sure. What we do know is that Steve’s encounter is a fascinating addition to the many Bigfoot sightings and encounters that have been reported over the years.
