Former Marine James had an experience in the Appalachian Mountains that he will never forget. While camping with his fiancé Lana, they encountered a large, humanoid figure covered in coarse, matted hair and moving in a peculiar hunched manner. The creature had eyes that glinted menacingly in the darkness, and its presence was accompanied by a pungent and lingering odor.
James and Lana were startled awake by strange noises coming from outside their tent, including shuffling footsteps and soft guttural grunts. When James shined his flashlight into the darkness, he saw the large humanoid figure 25 yards away. Despite his Marine training, James decided that the best course of action was to disengage and create distance. He and Lana quickly and quietly gathered their belongings and made their way back towards the trail, constantly looking over their shoulders for any signs of the creature.
The next morning, they made their way back to the trailhead, still shaken. Reflecting on their experience, James cannot say for certain what they encountered, but theories have ranged from an unknown Cryptid species to escaped primates or a prankster in a costume.
In addition to this experience, James also had an encounter near Camp Lejeune in North Carolina while he was stationed there in 2012. He heard an unnerving high-pitched call that he had never encountered before, followed by a thunderous noise from across the creek. James believes that he was being followed or stalked by a mysterious creature, and he cannot come up with a logical explanation for what he experienced.
