In a video recently posted on The Sasquatch Discovery Project YouTube channel, a fascinating account of a tribe of "Giants" was shared. The story, published in 1940 and written by Marion Smith, is titled "Giants: The Puyallup Nisqually" and was published by AMS Press.
According to the account, a race of tall Indians, known as the Siatco or Stetat, wandered through the forests of Washington State. These beings were said to be well over six feet tall and had a unique language that sounded like whistling. They did not have houses or villages and were mainly active during the hours of darkness.
The Siatco were known to play pranks on the village Indians, stealing fish from their nets and going off with their half-cured supplies. They also had the ability to induce a sort of hypnotic helplessness in their victims through the sound of their whistle. Despite their pranks, the Siatco were considered dangerous if they were interfered with or if harm was caused to one of their members.
Children were particularly afraid of the Siatco and were often threatened with being taken by them as a form of discipline. During the summer camping trips, children would sleep in the center of the Matt houses, surrounded by their elders, for fear of being taken by the Siatco.
The video also shares two accounts of the capture or killing of a Siatco. In one instance, a Siatco boy was captured and raised by a group of Indians. After many years, he returned to his people, bringing his Siatco band with him. In another account, a group of men from the Skycomish tribe killed a Siatco with a bow and arrow.
