In the late 1990s and early 2000s, a science teacher by the name of Tom Powell heard about a seven and a half foot tall burn victim who had multiple burns on its hands, feet, legs, and body. This creature was said to have been harmed in the Battle Mountain Complex fire in Nevada in 1999. Tom set out on a mission to prove the incident occurred and was part of a wider, more sinister cover-up. The Battle Mountain Complex fire was started by lightning strikes on August 5, 1999, in Battle Mountain, Nevada. The fire quickly spread, consuming 70,000 to 180,000 acres of land and destroying the habitats and wildlife in the area. On August 7th, a mysterious creature was witnessed by up to 30 people, desperately trying to save itself from the fire. The creature was described as a seven and a half foot tall burn victim, with hair singed and an odd smell, described as equine-like. The creature was injured badly, with burns covering its body and omitting an odd smell. The firefighters on the scene were shocked at what they saw, describing the creature as resembling a Sasquatch. Medics were called to the scene and worked together to get the creature laid on a spine board in order to transport it. However, due to the creature's large stature, it threatened to overwhelm the plastic underneath. The fire crew decided to call for help from a veterinarian and a doctor to try and save the creature. The veterinarian on the scene declared that the creature was too human-like for him to confidently treat, but a doctor gave the creature Demerol and morphine administered through an IV to keep it alive while efforts were made to maintain its life. A witness who was only three feet away from the patient reported hearing bowel sounds but no vocalizations resembling any known language were heard. The patient was called by patting and petting which it responded to. The creature was taken from the scene in the back of a utility vehicle, and the team that treated the creature were told that it was being transported to a local hospital, but they weren't told where. Days after the incident, they couldn't find any trace of evidence as to where the creature had gone. The whole incident was to be covered up, and the team that treated the creature were made to sign an affidavit under the department of interior and the U.S Forest Service, declaring the whole affair confidential under penalty of a felony arrest and jail time. This incident is one of many alleged Bigfoot sightings, and like in so many others, a government entity swooped in to shut it down. However, a letter written just hours after the incident by a government employee who claimed to have witnessed a Sasquatch-like creature was sent to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). The letter reads: "I observed an animal wounded by fire moving on all fours not like a bear more like an ape. Firefighters captured the animal and contacted the local vet and medical doctor. U.S Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of interior and Bureau of Land Management are all on the scene. Animal tranquilized and moved to an unknown location. Those at the scene are told not to talk about what they saw. Animal approximately seven and a half feet long, tall human-like arms and legs, face not like a man or ape but mixed between. Genitalia male, uncircumcised and human-like, hair covering most of the body except chest. Chest has hair but sparse. Hands with sparse hair, palms bear with five digits with human opposition of thumb and fifth digit. Regarding speech, it attempted to communicate with caregivers, ones that realized they were attempting to care for it. Multiple Burns to hands, feet, legs and body, some second and third degree burns." The video of this incident can be found on the YouTube channel Bigfoot Classified, and it is definitely worth a watch for any Bigfoot enthusiast. The video contains graphic content and listener discretion is advised. The video relies largely on news documents, eyewitness accounts, press conferences, and interviews, and it is produced with respect to the victims, families, and communities involved. Some of the interviews, quotes, and broadcasts have been recreated, and numerous hours of research have been done regarding these stories.
