A chilling tale of a camping trip gone wrong has been shared with us by a viewer named Nate, who grew up in Central North Carolina in the 1980s. Nate and his friends, Rick and Steve, decided to take a camping trip to the Rocky River Big Bend, a place known for its history with Native Americans and the Civil War. As they set up camp, they noticed how quiet it was. The usual sounds of wildlife were nowhere to be heard. But, they brushed it off and enjoyed their evening by the campfire. Later that night, they heard a loud splash in the river, as if a large rock had been thrown in. They thought it was just a tree branch falling in the water, but then they heard it again. This time, they saw a rock fly through the trees and land in the river. The three boys picked up rocks and threw them in the river, trying to scare off whoever was messing with them. But, then they heard something large running through the forest. Ben, the 10-year-old brother of Steve, was terrified and ran into the tent and started crying. Suddenly, they heard a loud splash in the river, as if something had jumped in. They could hear movement in the water and decided to investigate. As they approached the river, they saw trees shaking violently and heard a deep, chimpanzee-like scream. They ran back to camp and decided to leave immediately. As they were running up the trail, they could hear movement and screaming behind them. They finally made it to their car and drove away, but not before Ben saw a large shape behind the car. When they got out of the car to investigate, they saw scratches on the bumper. They weren't sure if they were from rocks or something else, but they were definitely there. Nate's story is a chilling reminder of the unknown dangers that can lurk in the woods. While we don't know for sure what happened that night, it's clear that Nate and his friends had a terrifying experience.
