If you're a fan of cryptids and the stories that surround them, then you're in for a treat. A video posted on the YouTube channel Cryptids Across the Atlas titled "The Legend of the Yucca Man: Southern California's Desert Sasquatch" tells the tale of a creature that has been terrorizing the residents of Southern California for decades.
The video begins with the story of a young man stationed on overnight guard duty at the Gate of 29 Palms Marine base. He heard a terrible raspy breathing and footsteps that began to circle around his position. Alert and curious, he stepped out of the guard booth sidearmed and walked to the edge of the clearing around his post. That's when he caught a glimpse of a massive hairy monstrosity barreling toward him. The man whipped towards the sound and caught but a glimpse of the creature before passing out. The next morning, he was found on the ground with his rifle strapped to him, torn from his shoulder and almost completely in half.
The creature in this story is commonly referred to as the Yucca Man, a SoCal Sasquatch of the desert. Residents of Southern California have had run-ins with this 8-foot-tall humanoid with long shaggy fur since the 1950s. The creature has been known to terrorize lone individuals, attack military personnel, and leave a myriad of tracks around people's homes, causing panic in some California communities.
The video goes on to tell the story of the speedway monster, a creature that was first sighted at the Fontana Dragway in 1955. Over the following decades, a dozen or so sightings of the creature were reported, all following a similar pattern. Even after the speedway closed, sightings around the area continued.
In 1991, local residents Mr. and Mrs. Davis noted heavy footsteps around their farmhouse late one evening. The footfalls were so heavy that the house shook. The following year, numerous separate groups of people reported seeing not one but an entire family of large furry bipedal creatures crossing over the train tracks toward the edge of town.
The video also touches on the connection between U.S military personnel and strange sightings. If there's any credence to that connection, then the sightings just 30 miles north at Edwards Air Force Base are icing on the cake. Countless security personnel have reported catching glimpses of large hairy bipedal creatures around some of the most sensitive areas of the Air Force Base.
The video is a fascinating look into the world of cryptids and the legends that surround them. If you're a fan of the unknown and the mysteries that it holds, then this video is definitely worth a watch. You can check it out on the Cryptids Across the Atlas YouTube channel.
