If you're a fan of cryptids and the mysteries they bring, then you're in for a treat. The YouTube channel The Midnight Sentry recently shared a video titled "Top 5 Cryptids of Washington," and it's chock-full of fascinating information about some of the most intriguing creatures said to inhabit the Evergreen State. At number five, we have the ever-popular Sasquatch or Bigfoot, a cryptid that has captured the imagination of Washingtonians and people all over the world. With countless sightings and encounters reported throughout the state's vast wilderness, the Sasquatch remains a captivating and enduring part of Washington's identity. One of the most compelling pieces of evidence for the Sasquatch is the Skokomish Meadow incident from 2000. A strange body impression was found in the meadow, which many Bigfoot researchers believe to be from a Sasquatch. This impression, measuring 3.5 feet by 5 feet, suggested a large creature had lain down to reach some apples left as bait, providing a detailed imprint of various anatomical features. Recent sightings include a hunter's encounter in October 2021 near a creek in Stevens County, about 10 miles north of Colville, and a motorist's sighting in June 2022 in Grays Harbor County. These reports, submitted to the Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO), describe an enormous upright walking ape-like creature with a strong unpleasant odor and an unearthly, eerie scream. The video also covers the elusive and formidable creature known as the Bat Squatch, which has captured the imagination of many in the Pacific Northwest. With its unique combination of anthropoid and bat-like features, the Bat Squatch is a chimera of a bat and Sasquatch that has been spotted in Washington, as well as other states like New Mexico and California. One notable encounter occurred in 2009 when a group of hikers in the Cascade Mountains reported seeing a large winged creature perched high in the trees. With red eyes that glowed in the twilight and a piercing, almost deafening screech, the Bat Squatch remains a fascinating and mysterious part of the region's folklore.
