Hiking Ape Canyon: A Journey Through History and Mystery
If you're a fan of hiking and the great outdoors, you'll love the YouTube channel Our PNW Adventures. Recently, they shared their experience hiking Ape Canyon, located on the southeast side of Mount St. Helens in Washington State. The video, titled "Hiking Ape Canyon | Mt St Helens | Washington State | July 2023," is a must-watch for anyone interested in the paranormal or the history of the Pacific Northwest.
The hike itself is a challenging one, covering 10 or 11 miles with an elevation gain of 2,200 feet. The group, consisting of two 40-year-old hikers and a young boy named Logan, reminisce about their previous hike in the area five years ago. Logan, who was just a little guy during their last visit, shares his excitement about the beautiful scenes at the top of the hike.
As they make their way through the dense forest, the hikers share some interesting history about Ape Canyon. The area is famous for an incident that occurred in July 1924, when a group of miners claimed they were attacked by a gang of wild apemen. According to the survivors, these creatures were what we now call Sasquatch. The miners reported that the Sasquatch threw huge stones at their cabin, and one even reached inside and tried to pull out an ax.
The hikers explain that the landscape has changed significantly since the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980. They believe that the cabin where the miners were attacked was located near the goalie at the bottom of the canyon. The area is now covered in lush vegetation, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
As the hikers continue their journey, they come across a mountain goat, which they excitedly film and admire. After taking a well-deserved lunch break, they make their way back down the mountain, reflecting on the incredible views and the rich history of Ape Canyon.
