Hey Squatchable readers! I recently came across an interesting behind-the-scenes video on YouTube from the channel Matti Haapoja. In the video, Matti and his team set out to create a short film featuring a Sasquatch. I was immediately intrigued and knew I had to share it with all of you.
The video starts with Matti and his team arriving on location early in the morning to begin filming. They were joined by Jesse Senko, a director Matti has known for a long time, and they were excited to finally work together on a project. The team was promoting some new clothing with zippered pockets and came up with the idea to create a short film or commercial featuring a Sasquatch.
The Sasquatch costume was built by Jesse and his team, and they were able to put it together in just a couple of weeks. They used a suit and special effects makeup to create the Sasquatch, and the result was impressive. The gloves were one of the team's favorite parts of the costume, and they helped make the Sasquatch look even more realistic.
The team shot the short film on an Alexa Mini LF camera and used Atlas Orion anamorphic lenses to give the film a unique look. They wanted the film to feel like it wasn't quite reality, and the anamorphic lenses helped achieve that effect.
One of the most crucial scenes in the film was a wide shot of the family with the Sasquatch. The team was able to get the shot in just one take, but they did another take just in case. Some of the reactions were better on the second take, so they cut the two together in the final edit.
The team also had to deal with some challenges while filming, including working with a baby and dealing with poison ivy in the forest. They used a 3600 watt hour Aputure Delta Pro battery bank to power their equipment, which was much quieter and more convenient than a gas-powered generator.
Overall, the behind-the-scenes video was fascinating, and I can't wait to see the final short film featuring the Sasquatch. If you're interested in filmmaking or just want to see how a Sasquatch costume is made, I highly recommend checking out the video on Matti Haapoja's YouTube channel.
