If you're a Bigfoot enthusiast, you'll want to add Whitehall, New York to your list of must-visit locations. Known as the "Bigfoot Capital of New York," this town in Washington County has a rich history and a stunning natural beauty that make it an interesting destination for both history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts. Whitehall is located in the eastern part of the state, near the border with Vermont, and is situated on the shores of Lake Champlain and surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. The town has a population of just over 4,000 people and is often referred to as the birthplace of the U.S Navy due to its historical connection to the American Revolutionary War and the construction of ships used in their war effort. But Whitehall's claim to fame in the world of the paranormal is its reputation as a hotspot for Bigfoot sightings. In the 1970s, a rash of sightings and mysterious incidents began to happen, culminating in what is now known as the "incident at a bear" where off-duty police officer Brian Gosling pulled his sidearm on a tall, large, hairy biped, but the creature walked off into the darkness without threat. This earned Whitehall another title, the "Bigfoot capital of New York," and sightings continue to this day. One of the most famous Bigfoot sightings in Whitehall occurred at the Sken Valley Country Club in May of 1975. Cliff Sparks, the late owner of the club, had a sighting on the first green about 11:30 p.m at night and described it as a tall, lumbering, kind of clumsy creature with a different knee-foot relationship and very piercing red glowing eyes. This sighting, along with others, has made Whitehall a popular destination for those looking to explore the world of the paranormal. In addition to its Bigfoot sightings, Whitehall is also known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. The town is situated on the shores of Lake Champlain and surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains, making it an ideal location for boat fishing, hiking, and other recreational activities. The lake provides a picturesque backdrop for many of these activities, and the town's rich history and colonial architecture add to its charm.
