In the late 1800s, Portlock Alaska was a small town built around a salmon cannery. The locals, mostly Native people, were known to hunt with bows and arrows. In 1905, three hunters went missing, leaving behind only their broken bows and scattered arrows. A fisherman later found the remains of one of the hunters, missing an arm and a head, with no signs of animal attack. The locals believed it was the work of the nanak, their version of Bigfoot. Over the next few decades, more mysterious deaths occurred in the town, leading the residents to abandon it in 1936. Today, Portlock is a ghost town, with stories of Bigfoot sightings still circulating.
