For years, people living in Alert Bay, British Columbia, have reported hearing strange screams and howls coming from the forests at night. The area is known for its Sasquatch legends, which run deep in the First Nations culture. While many dismiss the sounds as just animal noises, some are now wondering if those legends are real.
Paranormal investigator and researcher, Jason Hewlett, co-founder of the Canadian Paranormal Society, has a personal interest in Sasquatch, and has been investigating reports of unusual sounds in the Cormorant Island area. In a recent video on YouTube, he shares a chilling experience he had with his childhood friend, Mike Stewart, while exploring the woods near their family's cabin at Shuswap Lake.
Hewlett and Stewart had been exploring the woods for hours when they came across a strange campsite. Under one of the biggest trees, all the needles were cleared, and a lean-to made of sticks and turf was built, with a bone, like a part of an arm, picked completely clean, and a fire pit dug with stones set perfectly around it. Hewlett and Stewart were puzzled as there was no lean-to, hole in the ground, bone or fire pit an hour earlier when they had passed the same spot.
The next morning, they returned to the spot, only to find that the campsite had disappeared, leaving no trace behind. The ground was covered with pine needles, like it had been earlier the previous day. Hewlett and Stewart were shocked and confused, and the experience has fueled Hewlett's interest in the paranormal even further.
After sharing this experience with indigenous storyteller and artist Chris Bose, he suggested that what Hewlett and Stewart had encountered was the "little people," who have been a part of the region's folklore for thousands of years. The little people, known as Bushman or Not Gong in the Tlichon language, are believed to be terrifying human-like creatures with powerful magic. They lure people towards them and steal them, never to be seen again. Sasquatch and other forest spirits reside on the other side and send out the little people as guides during the day to let other creatures like the Sasquatch and tricksters know what is going on.
While it is unclear what exactly happened that day in the woods near Shuswap Lake, the encounter adds to the growing body of evidence that suggests there may be something paranormal going on in Cormorant Island. This video is a must-watch for anyone interested in Sasquatch and the paranormal, and could be the start of a new chapter in the ongoing search for answers.
