In a shocking and rare case, a baby boy was born in India with 60% of his body covered in thick, dark hair. According to reports, the mother gave birth at CHA Bhawan and while the delivery was normal, doctors were shocked to see the baby's abnormal amount of hair. The baby was diagnosed with giant congenital melanocytic nevus, a rare skin disorder that affects about 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns. The condition causes an abnormally dark patch of skin, and there is a high chance of developing skin cancer called melanoma.

Locals crowded to see the bizarre condition for themselves, and experts say the nevus may cause a range of symptoms including dry skin, irritation, itching, and non-uniform hair growth. It may also lead to neurocutaneous melanosis, in which pigment-producing cells build up in the tissue covering the brain and spinal cord, leading to tumours. Plastic surgery is the main treatment for this condition, but in some cases partial-thickness grafts or ablations may be used. This is a truly shocking and unique case, and we can only hope that the baby will receive the proper treatment and care. (Link: indianexpress.com) (Link: nypost.com)
