A recent video posted to YouTube recounts what the witness describes as his "most remarkable Bigfoot sighting" — and after hearing the details, it's easy to understand why this encounter stands out from the rest.
The story takes place in the South Oregon Coast Range, specifically within the P Ranger District in Oregon. For anyone unfamiliar with this area, it's a thick, remote stretch of forest known for its deep, dark canyons and limited sunlight — exactly the kind of terrain Sasquatch researchers have long considered prime habitat. The witness had been researching an area around Shrew Lake for several years, using nearby Daphne Campground as a staging point. He was joined by his friend Gary, a local logger, for a drive up to check on a forest service road that had been badly washed out over the winter. Gary had just purchased a new van, which unfortunately started overheating on the steep, winding mountain roads — forcing them to turn back.
They pulled into the Shrew Lake day-use area, a gravel parking lot adjacent to the small lake (more of a large pond, really). Gary got out to fill some water bottles from the lake while the witness stayed near the van, taking in the familiar surroundings. It was around 9 or 10 in the morning — bright daylight, nothing unusual expected.
Then it started.
From the 2:00 position — up near the witness's usual camping spot on a hill — came a sound that stopped them both cold. The witness describes it as the infamous "samurai" sound, comparing it directly to the Sierra Sounds recorded in the California Sierra Nevada mountains. For anyone who's researched vocalizations, the Sierra Sounds are those eerie, woodwind-like calls that have been documented for decades and remain one of the most debated pieces of evidence in Sasquatch research. Many researchers consider them authentic, and this witness is now firmly in that camp.
But it didn't stop there. Almost immediately, whispering sounds came from the 11:00 position, from a ridge line in front of them. Then the samurai sound again. Then, directly in front of them at the 12:00 position — about 50 feet away — came more whispering, but this time remarkably loud for a whisper. The witness emphasizes that whatever was making these sounds had to be enormous. The sheer volume of a "whisper" that loud suggests something massive.
Then the howls started. What the witness calls "monkey whoops" erupted from every direction — and he estimates at least 20 different vocalizations from 20 different locations, completely surrounding them. These weren't close, either — he places them around a quarter mile out, but the sound carried through the forest in a way that made it feel like they were everywhere at once.
The witness admits he was terrified. Despite years of solo research in the area, the sheer number of vocalizations and the daytime nature of the encounter shook him. But the most chilling moment came when he could have sworn one of them said his name. Before he could even process the thought, Gary — standing right next to him — turned and asked, "Did they just say your name?"
The witness has spent years in that same spot, regularly vocalizing and interacting with the Sasquatch in the area. He's said his name countless times. Whether it was mimicry, recognition, or something else entirely, both men heard it.
This is the kind of encounter that reminds you just how little we understand about these beings. A daytime encounter with multiple individuals, coordinated vocalizations from all directions, and what appears to be recognition of a specific human — this isn't your typical fleeting glimpse or distant howl.
If you want to hear the full account in the witness's own words, definitely check out the video. He goes into much more detail about the timeline, the specific locations, and his own analysis of what happened. It's one of those stories that stays with you long after the video ends.
