Almost immediately, something in the woods responded, but not with a whistle or howl. It was the sound of sticks or small saplings being broken. They jumped back in the vehicle, drove down the road to turn around, but curiosity got the better of them and they stopped at the lookout again. This time they stayed inside with a spotlight scanning the tree line. At first, nothing. Then something moved about 40 yards out. A large, black, hairy figure standing among the trees, so dark they hadn't even noticed it until it shifted. The witness estimated it at seven to eight feet tall, with a back turned toward them. It slightly turned, almost like it was checking to see if they were still there. He described the profile as apelike with a cone-shaped head and caught a glimpse of yellowish-green eye shine. That was enough. He told his friends to get him out of there, and according to him, they floored it. The witness also mentioned some unsettling local lore. Hunters in the area have reportedly had dogs disappear overnight, only to have their tracking collars found hanging in trees in spots where no one should have been. Whether that's folklore or something more, it certainly adds an eerie footnote to the encounter. **Idaho – Deadwood Reservoir** This next one hits different because it happened in broad daylight to someone who knows the area extremely well. The witness, Don, is a 50-year-old Boise resident who has been hiking and camping around Deadwood Reservoir for decades. Black bears, moose, deer, even the occasional wolf, nothing unusual. On July 13th, he was hiking above the dam when he spotted some movement on a hilltop about 60 to 70 yards away. His first thought was bear or maybe a mountain lion. So he stopped and watched. For about a minute, whatever it was stayed low, and Don still couldn't make sense of what he was seeing. Then it stood up onto two legs, briefly looked in his direction, and started walking quickly uphill. Don watched it for another 15 to 20 seconds before it disappeared from view. He estimated the figure at five to six feet tall, heavily built through the chest and shoulders, covered in long reddish hair he compared to the cinnamon phase of a black bear, but much longer. The head appeared tall with almost no visible neck, almost as if it were sitting directly on humanlike shoulders. The face was hard to make out because it seemed covered in hair too. The torso looked longer than the legs, and the arms appeared remarkably long and somewhat disproportionate. But the walk, that was the part that stuck with him. It looked very humanlike. He also recalled hearing deep, pig-like grunts. Here's the kicker. Don had always dismissed Sasquatch as nothing more than a myth. He was reluctant to tell anyone what he saw. But there's a reason this encounter stayed with him. His brother had claimed to see a Sasquatch near McCall, Idaho back in 1991. For years, Don laughed at him, teased him, told him he was full of it. After what he saw above Deadwood Reservoir, Don wasn't laughing anymore. Thirty-five years of ribbing, and his brother finally earned that "I told you so." **Washington State – Skookumchuck Reservoir** The final encounter is a different kind of creepy. This one happened in May of 2024 near the Skookumchuck Reservoir outside of Tenino, in Thurston County. A group of five adults and three children set up camp at an extremely secluded spot. And when I say secluded, I mean it. The land is privately controlled, and getting in required passing through three security gates with keys provided by the company. Cameras monitored the entrance, and security guards regularly patrolled the area. This wasn't the kind of place where someone could just wander in by accident. They arrived and set up their tents around 11:00 that night. Everyone went to bed. About 45 minutes later, one of the women heard someone walking around outside. At first, she figured it was one of the men who had gotten up to use the portable toilet about 60 yards away. But she hadn't heard a tent unzip, and whoever was out there was walking in the opposite direction of the toilet. She listened for about 10 minutes, and the footsteps kept going. Whatever was out there was circling the campsite, and it wasn't one of her group. --- What ties all three of these together is the pattern that keeps showing up in encounter reports. The response to sound in Kentucky, the bipedal movement and unusual proportions in Idaho, and the deliberate circling behavior in Washington.
