Night Watchmen Terrorized by Sasquatch in Washington Woods

There's something about a well-documented encounter series that really gets the blood pumping, and a recent video from the Far Side Of The Fire channel delivers exactly that. It tells the story of a young couple who took a summer job as night watchmen at a remote logging site near Riffe Lake in Lewis County, Washington, back in 2003, and what they experienced over the course of just one week would change their lives forever. For anyone familiar with Sasquatch reports, Washington State is practically sacred ground. The BFRO database has logged more sightings there than anywhere else in the country, and the Cascade foothills have been steeped in these stories for generations. So when a couple arrived at this isolated timber site to guard equipment overnight, they probably weren't expecting anything more than the occasional curious critter. What they got instead was a full-blown encounter series that even seasoned researchers find compelling. The narrative comes from an interview conducted by BFRO investigator Scott Taylor, and it's broken down day by day, which makes it all the more chilling. It all kicked off on August 1st, 2003. The couple had headed out to a nearby pond to do some fishing before their shift started. About an hour in, as the daylight was fading, they heard a deep, resonant scream from across the water, roughly 40 yards to their right. Before they could even process what was happening, another scream erupted from their left, near where they had parked. The girlfriend noted in her witness statement that her boyfriend had been a hunter his whole life and had never heard anything like it. A third scream sent them scrambling for the car, and two terrified ducks actually flew into their path as they sped away, one striking the driver's side mirror. That kind of detail, the ducks flushing, the mirror strike, it speaks to how chaotic and frightening those first moments were. The very next night, things escalated. While checking equipment in a clearcut, they spotted three sets of red eyes lingering at the edge of a spur road. When they hit the eyes with a laser pointer, the figures actually bobbed and weaved to avoid the beam. One set stayed low to the ground while the other two rose up. When the laser caught one of them, it illuminated hair that the witnesses estimated to be about four inches long. Then one of those sets of eyes rose to roughly six feet off the ground before turning and walking into the treeline, accompanied by crashing brush and vocalizations that sounded, in their words, like two very annoyed people complaining. That's a description that comes up surprisingly often in Sasquatch encounters, the almost human-like complaining or mumbling sounds. On the afternoon of August 2nd, while walking a nearby trail, they heard a strange, flute-like whistle that seemed to follow them almost all the way back to the main road. Whatever was out there was clearly tracking their movements. Then came August 6th, just before midnight. The female witness went to fetch water from a creek behind their trailer. Crouching down to fill the jug, she looked up and found herself staring into two large yellowish eyes surrounded by black, shiny skin, just five feet away. She saw the eyes, the cheeks, the forehead, almost the entire face. Her response was remarkably calm under the circumstances. She softly told the creature, "You stay right there," and backed away slowly. When she returned with her boyfriend, it was gone. The most intense encounter happened on August 7th. While walking up the road to check on equipment at dusk, she spotted what she initially thought was a large bear or elk drinking from the creek. But this thing was on its knees, leaning forward, and when it stood up, she said it looked like a big stump just growing out of the ground. She described it as roughly eight to nine feet tall with burnt red colored hair. She froze completely, unable to scream or move. The creature casually stepped over a three-foot stump and moved toward her. That's when she snapped and ran, screaming, down the hill toward the trailer. The creature got just as agitated and began screaming back, breaking trees and branches as it moved through the forest. Her boyfriend heard the chaos from across the road and watched the figure retreating while throwing what he described as a full-blown tantrum in the woods. That same night, while refilling water jugs within 40 yards of the trailer, they heard movement nearby, possibly something walking up the creek bank. What makes this account stand out is the consistency. The screams heard on August 1st matched the screams during the August 7th encounter. The pattern of red eyes, the vocalizations, the whistle, the face at the creek, it all built on itself night after night. These weren't isolated incidents. This was a sustained presence that seemed to be studying them just as much as they were trying to understand it. Lewis County and the Riffe Lake area have a long history with these kinds of reports, and the logging activity in the region has long been thought to disturb the habitats of these elusive beings. Whether you view this as territorial behavior, curiosity, or something else entirely, the witnesses came out of this experience convinced they knew what was lurking in those woods. The video does a fantastic job laying out the timeline and letting the witnesses' own words carry the weight of the story. If you haven't seen it yet, it's well worth the watch. The pacing, the details, and Scott Taylor's interview work really let the encounters speak for themselves.
